Significance

Haridwar is one of the oldest and holiest cities in India, and a major Kumbh Mela site on the banks of the Ganga. Har Ki Pauri is the most sacred ghat for taking a holy dip during Kumbh. It marks the point where the Ganga descends from the Himalayas into the plains.

हरिद्वार भारत के सबसे प्राचीन और पवित्र शहरों में से एक है और गंगा तट पर कुंभ मेला का प्रमुख स्थल है। हर की पौड़ी कुंभ के दौरान स्नान के लिए सबसे पवित्र घाट माना जाता है। यह वह स्थान है जहां गंगा हिमालय से मैदानों में उतरती है।

Legend & History

Legend says that Lord Vishnu left his footprint on a stone at Har Ki Pauri, and the name means 'Steps of Lord Hari.' During the Samudra Manthan, a few drops of amrit fell here, making Haridwar one of the four Kumbh locations. The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri is world-famous.

मान्यता है कि भगवान विष्णु ने हर की पौड़ी पर अपने चरण चिह्न छोड़े थे, इसलिए इसका अर्थ 'हरि के चरण' है। समुद्र मंथन के दौरान अमृत की कुछ बूंदें यहां गिरी थीं, जिससे हरिद्वार कुंभ के चार स्थलों में शामिल है। हर की पौड़ी की संध्या गंगा आरती विश्व प्रसिद्ध है।
